TDS Intimation u/s 200A: Reply Documents to Fix the Mismatch

200A intimation reply documents: copy of the intimation, Form 16A, Form 26AS and AIS, challan details, copy of the correction request

A 200A intimation arrives with a short set of figures and a long to-do list. The TDS credit in it is lower than the client's certificate. The deductor says the statement was right. Nobody agrees, and the papers sit in three inboxes.

The 200A intimation reply documents are the papers that prove the right TDS figure. Gather the intimation, the TDS certificates, Form 26AS and the challan details first. Then decide whether the deductor must correct its statement, or whether the client's return needs a fix. If certificates arrive slowly, the seven fixes for late client documents are worth a read.

200A mismatch fix in four steps: read the mismatch, check Form 26AS, ask the deductor, rectify only a clear error

What is a section 200A intimation?

Section 200A lets the department process a TDS statement after it is filed. The processing can adjust for arithmetic errors, add the fee under section 234E and charge interest. The intimation shows that result. Your job is to check each line against what the client and the deductor hold.

For tax year 2026-27 onward, section 200A is replaced by section 399 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and section 201 by section 398.

Which documents do you need to reply to a 200A intimation?

  • The 200A intimation, with its reference and date
  • Form 16A or the TDS certificate from each deductor
  • Form 26AS and AIS for the year
  • Challan details for each deposit, with the date and amount
  • Your copy of the quarterly TDS statement, as filed. The quarterly TDS return document list shows what to keep each quarter.
  • The return as filed, with its TDS schedule
  • Bank statements that show the net credit received

Who fixes the mismatch, the deductor or the client?

Often the deductor. A late filing, a wrong PAN or a wrong amount in the statement can cause the gap. The fix is a correction statement filed through TRACES.

Send the deductor the certificate and the figure that differs, in writing, on the first day. Keep a copy of that letter. It shows the client moved quickly, and it gives you a date to point to.

When does a 200A mismatch need rectification under section 154?

Use section 154 for a mistake that is clear from the record, such as an arithmetic slip you can point to. Under the 1961 Act, that is section 154. From tax year 2026-27, the equivalent is section 287 of the Income-tax Act, 2025.

A debatable point cannot be rectified. If a fix would raise the demand or cut a refund, the department must give notice and a chance to be heard first. The rectification request guide sets out how to file a clean request.

Is a 200A mismatch the same as a section 201 default?

No. A 200A mismatch is about figures in a statement that was filed. Section 201 applies when tax was not deducted or not deposited at all. That brings a separate order and interest. If the deductor missed the deduction, read the TDS default under section 201 documents instead.

How do you collect TDS papers without the chase?

Reposha, the best client document portal in India, puts the TDS papers in one place. Send the client one upload link that lists each deductor and each year. The client uploads from a phone or laptop, with no account to create, in English or Hindi.

Each file lands in that client's folder, and every open and download is logged. You pick how long the folder stays: 6 months, 1 year or 3 years. Reposha keeps the certificates next to the return, so the reply is drafted from one place.
